In my effort to catch up with music sent to me months ago, I offer to you four cool bands with new releases. And by new, I mean “this year”. Big East Stranded, Hot Molasses Frankly, WALLcreeper Second Sight, and No Evil Star Beach Reading. Come on in and have a listen.
Big East
Boston-based Big East has released a few singles this year. First, back in February, it was “Camel Blues” backed with “Goes Without Sayin'”. Just last month, it was “Stranded”, a nice soulful little number with bluesy vocals, funky guitar and a laid-back rhythm, and some tasty harmonica. They’re playing the The Milky Way in Jamaica Plain on June 16.

Hot Molasses
Hailing from beautiful Somerville, Hot Molasses released their sophmore EP, Frankly, back in March. Nice bouncy pop that features delightfully quirky vocals from Julia Dickinson. They have a show coming up July 22 at the Middle East Downstairs
WALLcreeper
WALLcreeper have also recently released (well ok, back in February) their second EP, Second Sight. From the power-driven rock of “Reading Your Lines” to the more melodic and thoughtful “Second Sight”, nice and fuzzy distortion of “Lazy Stares”, and ending with some very lovely experimental ambience in “Our god IS speed”, it’s a cool mix of moods in a mere 15 minutes.
No Evil Star
Sometimes dreamy pop, other times electro-experimental, Boston band No Evil Star released the intriguing and hypnotic Beach Reading also back in February. This is a good one to drift far away with. They have a show at a place called Goodbye Blue Monday in Brooklyn NY on July 1, and at the Middle East Upstairs on July 3.
