I’m back from Los Angeles with all sorts of amazing stories to tell. But before that happens, a bit of “Boston housekeeping.” Amazingly, tickets are still available for The Boston Calling Music Festival on September 7 & 8 at City Hall Plaza. It’s a great lineup, with Saturday as an indie rock love-fest and Sunday being more of a dance party. So if funds are tight, pick your favorite day and get on it.
In this installment, we have a look at two more bands from Saturday (Bat For Lashes and The Airborne Toxic Event) and two more from Sunday (Solange and Wolfgang Gartner).
Bat For Lashes – Saturday
British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan is Bat For Lashes. Her ethereal vocals are haunting. Her latest album is The Haunted Man, released October of last year.

The Airborne Toxic Event – Saturday
Fresh from their epic performance with The Pacific Symphony at the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, California, The Airborne Toxic Event will be back to their usual five members instead of 90… but no less powerful. Their latest release is the breathtaking Such Hot Blood, which came out back in April, and which I reviewed. They’ve performed over 900 times since their beginnings in 2006. They’re getting pretty good at it.
Solange – Sunday
Singer-songwriter and model Solange Knowles (also known as Solange) has been performing her unique melding of R&B, hip-hop, funk and soul since 2001. She’s released two albums, and most recently put out the EP True (last year).
Wolfgang Gartner – Sunday
Electro-house producer/DJ Wolfgang Gartner will be performing on Sunday. Born Joseph Youngman, he created his stage name in 2008, when he moved from being a deep house DJ to his new sound. His last full-length release was Back Story, which came out last year. His performance at Boston Calling is part of a national tour.
