Frightened Rabbit, Maps & Atlases, and Bad Veins
at the Paradise Rock Club, Boston, MA
Thursday, April 29 – (doors at 8pm; 18+ show)
Yowsa, what a delightful onslaught of really great bands coming through Boston right now! Though I see their Paradise show tomorrow night is sold out, I have to give a brief mention of a band I briefly profiled late last year, Frightened Rabbit.
Proudly immersed in their Scottish roots, like fellow FatCat Records artists The Twilight Sad and We Were Promised Jetpacks, Frightened Rabbit now have three albums to their name – Sing the Greys (2006), The Midnight Organ Fight (2008), and most recently, The Winter Of Mixed Drinks (March 2010). The band began in 2003 as the solo project of vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Scott Hutchison. Joining him now are Andy Monaghan and Gordon Skene (both on guitar and keyboards), Billy Kennedy on lead/bass guitar and keyboards, and Grant Hutchison on drums. Have a listen to (and look at) one of my favorites – “Swim Until You Can’t See Land”:
Performing with them at the Paradise will be Chicago-based Maps & Atlases and oh wow, Bad Veins! Very cool; saw them with Division Day at O’Brien’s Pub last year… they were great.
This touring juggernaut rolls into Philly on Friday (4/30) at the First Unitarian Church, and at Pearl Street in Northampton, Mass. on Saturday (5/1).
