If you’re looking to kick back with the gentle sounds of psych-folk and alt-country, honest storytelling and sweet harmonies, look no further than Brighton Music Hall on Thursday for an evening with Alela Diane and The Parson Red Heads. I’m really enjoying my first listen to Alela and her band, Wild Divine, and I can personally attest to the life-affirming qualities of The Parson Red Heads. You’ll definitely not want to miss what I believe is their first visit to our city.

So very happy to see The Parson Red Heads playing in Boston! The only time I had a chance to see them was at a very special Airborne Toxic Event show at Northern Lights in Albany, which felt like Spaceland landed in upstate New York – The Parsons, Airborne Tox, The Henry Clay People, and Red Cortez. Yowza, what a night! For those of you unfamiliar, The Parsons are a beautiful gathering of kind souls with a serene and breezy, psychedelic-folk sound and angelic harmonies. This is heartwarming, feel-good music of the highest order. They recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, after about five years in the Silverlake/Echo Park scene, and will be releasing a new album titled “Yearling” on August 16, on the indie imprint Arena Rock Recording Co. It was recorded with Raymond Richards at Red Rockets Glare in Los Angeles, and with Chris Stamey (the dB’s) in Chapel Hill, NC.

Here’s an early ‘trio version’ of “Burning Up The Sky”, the lead song from their new album, from that aforementioned Northern Lights show. With Daren Taylor from The Airborne Toxic Event on shaker and tambourine.

Headlining this evening, also from Portland, Oregon, is singer-songwriter Alela Diane and her band Wild Divine. They have a lovely alt-country vibe and her personal storytelling is accentuated by warm, rich vocals. Their recent self-titled release is on Rough Trade Records.
